Top Tip

Planning Ahead for 2022-23

Get involved in the Enigma Maths Hub Work Groups.
For example:

  • Do you have any ECTs in your school?
  • Would your support staff find it useful to find out more about maths learning and teaching?
  • Do you have any EY colleagues who would like to collaborate with other practitioners on this vital phase of learning?
  • Are you thinking about the content in Upper Key Stage 2?
  • What are the priorities for development in maths learning and teaching at your school in 2022-23?

Whatever your school’s needs there is likely to be a work group that you and your school can benefit from attending! – SEE THE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SECTION BELOW.

News

We reflect on the difference our Work Groups are making throughout the year and at this time in the year all Enigma Work Group leads are gathering a wide range of reflections from a range of different sources about the impact of participation in the many Work Groups.

As this is taking place it is amazing to be hearing about the differences that participating in the work groups has made all across the year to participants involved and also (more importantly) to the learning of our pupils.

We thought you might like to hear about some (yes – there are many more!) of the highlights – so far …………

This is significant! – Senior leaders sharing ways in which their learners are showing those positive attitudes. If you would like this for your pupils then you might like to think about joining a Teaching for Mastery Work Group?

A group of subject leaders reflecting on common successes in maths teaching across their schools across a number of sessions – A key element of the teaching for mastery work groups. Some spaces may be available – See Professional Development

Email from a participant:
I was quite nervous about working with someone new but I have really enjoyed our sessions this year and I have been able to continue to develop maths learning and teaching at my school. It has been difficult leading this through lockdowns but the work group has been great. It has meant that we have been able to work alongside other teachers. Thank you.

Session Reflections showing the differences for our pupils as a result of the session(s)

We believe it will continue to strengthen their understanding, recall and confidence.

By having more of an emphasis on mathematical vocabulary, the result will be children becoming more secure and children having a better understanding of word problems.

Children will have a deeper understanding of concepts which will make it easier for them to access new concepts and apply generalisations.

It will help develop my practise and the practise of others so I will then be able to focus greater on the children’s learning. The use of vocabulary in a new way will also help children explain their maths work more clearly and therefore learn more deeply in mathematics.

It is through a blend of the elements below that we seek to improve pupil outcomes – across ALL of our work groups.

In addition to the Work Groups above we are in the process of establishing the range of Work Groups for 2022-23.
At the moment we are confirming details and arranging work group leads so do keep an eye out for more information as we go through the term.
More details will be available through our website here

At the moment schools are able to indicate an expression of interest for some of the work groups.
This means that when applications open for a particular Work Group the contacts are notified that applications are open.
If you would like to see what our Enigma Maths Hub offer will include for 2022-23 then do have a look at the ‘catalogue’ which gives an indication.
